In order to search a specific folder for a file's contents, you'll first need to open that folder. For example, if you wanted to search for a file inside of the "Documents" folder, you'd open Documents. Click the search bar. It's in the upper-right corner of the folder's window. Enter the "content search" prompt. Type in content: into the search bar. Anything that you type after this prompt will be used as a content search term. Enter the content search term. Immediately after the "content:" prompt, type in the word or phrase that you want to use to search the folders' files' contents.

For example, if you're looking for a file that has the phrase "An elephant never forgets" in its body, you would have content:an elephant never forgets in the search bar. Each of the files in the search results will be indexed by content, meaning that you should see your preferred file somewhere near the top of the window if you entered correctly the word or phrase. You can narrow your search results by typing in a longer or more distinct phrase from the file that you want to find.

Method 2. Type change search options for files and folders into Start. The search bar is at the bottom of the Start window. Doing this will search your computer for the option you'll need to change in order to search by contents. Click Change search options for files and folders. Windows Search absolutely will not find them, even though it finds other files in the same folder when searching by date. Other than being invisible to Windows Search, these files are normal Windows files as far as I can see. Fairly annoying problem, as it means I have to remember to back these files up by hand to an SD card instead of doing a Windows Search for all files modified today, then dragging the whole group to the card.

Equally of concern, it means I have no idea how Search actually behaves. Is it missing other types of files that I don't know about? I have a directory with more than links to songs, and the annoying thing was, that the search showed some, but not all results - it found none of the newest files.

After trying out all kind of things, I finally found out, that System hat no access to the folders on my second partition on the harddisk, as described here:.

I might have overlooked similiar suggestions on other sites, and I found the list on partitionwizard. This seems to be a quite complete list which might support your troubleshooting, if you keep having problems with the search.
