Movieman Member. I recently purchased a used Kenwood TK rig dirt cheap and at this point missing a mic and an antenna, but from what I gather this would work on 2 meters. I have seen two different specs on what frequencies it covers….
Since these are older any references I see to programming them are talking about DOS based software on an old Windows based computer. My concerns obviously at this point surround buying a mike, buying a USB to 8 pin programming cable. I will hold off on new buys until I hear this rig can actually be used as a base or mobile unit. Thanks from a newbie… 73 Ron. Joined Jul 27, Messages 17, Location Pt.

It sure beats the cheaply-made amateur equipment out there, as far as build quality goes Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk. Looking at your response and realizing I was aware of some of it confirms to me that bargain that it was, by the time I add a mike, etc and considering it is pretty far out of the 2 meter spectrum, it's probably not the best way to spend my time.
The original software is available but the computer end and working with DOS to maybe get some results is more than I want to spend time on. I taught computer applications for about 15 years starting with DOS and old Windows 3. While DOS is still sputtering around I really don't want to revisit it that much. So, thanks for some of the details I missed when reading up on this I also got a Motorola police radio complete with all wiring and mike.
Will said:. Not XP and later. The procedure described below assumes you have a PC that is running Windows Please note that the G models do not program or modify in the same way. This information is only for the no-suffix and H models. The first thing to do is to install the software. This is old DOS software, it won't run on Windows. The only thing you will use Windows for is to manage the files. This software has no "Install" feature, at least the one I received did not.
It consists of a file folder with the several software files inside that folder. The folder is labeled KPG29D. So, these are the steps I used:. Click on the "My Computer" icon,. This will come up in a separate window that you will probably have to also minimize so that you wind up with two windows open, side by side.
The CD contents in one, and the C Drive contents in the other. If you didn't make an icon for the CD drive on your desktop already, the CD reader icon should be in the "My Computer" icon on the desktop. Move the mouse over to the C: Drive contents window and right click again in a free space, selecting "paste. Go to step 8 to run it. CD means "change directory. The Kenwood software should open up and ask you to press any key.
